No fewer than 410 motorcycles have been impounded on prohibited routes between last week and Wednesday in Lagos by the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce).

While 300 motorcylces were impounded last week, 140 others were impounded on Wednesday.

The spokesman of the taskforce, Mr. Femi Moliki, made these known on Thursday in a statement he issued.

He said the breakdown was given by the chairman of the taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who vowed that the task force would not rest on its oars until penchant disregard for traffic rules and regulations reduced drastically among commercial motoryclists in the metropolis.

Explaining the arrest of erring motorcyclist, Jejeloye said that officials of the agency carried out enforcement in Isolo, Ojodu – Berger, Ojota, Lagos Island and Surulere last week while the enforcement drive of the agency was also extended to 2nd Rainbow, where it seized 110 motor bikes yesterday.

He emphasized that the agency would do all that was within its power to enforce the restriction of motor bikes on Lagos highways and bridges.

He urged Lagosians to desist from patronising motorcyclists plying prohibited routes, maintaining that “it’s better to be safe than sorry.”

Jejeloye was quoted to have noted that it was disturbing that motorcyclists were refusing to comply with the Lagos Traffic Law restricting them from operating on highways and bridges, adding that, the law was made in the best interest of the general public.

He stated that enforcing the law was like assisting recalcitrant motorcyclists from killing themselves and endangering the lives of other road users.
