Scene of the accident

A young man hawking snacks was crushed to death in an accident which occurred Sunday morning close to Otedola Bridge outward Lagos.

Another woman driving was reported to be seriously injured.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in a statement, the accident occurred when a containerised trailer lost control while approaching Otedola Bridge.

The driver tried to park the vehicle but the container it carried fell off and landed on top of another vehicle driven by a woman.

The woman who was reported to be seriously injured was said to have been rescued and taken Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre located at Old Toll Gate by 7UP company.

Officials of NEMA and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, were said to be on hand to attend to the situation.

In a related development, a lone accident was recorded at Lotto corridor in Ogun State with a truck fully loaded with bamboos at about 0520 hours.

It blocked the Lagos-Ibadan end of the road.

It was reported that it took almost four hours before the trans-loading and clearance of the obstruction was completed.

Meanwhile, NEMA has appealed to motorists to exercise utmost caution while driving in the festive season.

In the statement by the Acting Assistant Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the agency pointed out that impatience and failure to obey traffic instructions were the major causes of the ceaseless gridlock being experienced between OPIC Centre in Ogun State and Berger Junction in Lagos.

The agency added that the activities of those buying livestock were also responsible for the disruption of free flow of traffic along the corridor.
