The ban on commercial motorcycles popularly referred to as okada in some parts of Lagos State has been extended to four more local government areas and five Local Council Development Areas, LCDA.
Affected are Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Mushin local government areas.
The LCDAs affected are Ikosi-Isherri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Bariga, and Odi-Olowo.
The ban which will take effect from September 1, 2022 was announced on Thursday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Fredric Oladeinde, and the Commissoner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.

Oladeinde made the announcement at the inter-ministerial media briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja.
It would be recalled that the state government had, in 2020, banned the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in 15 local government areas of the state.
The ban took effect from Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Omotoso who announced the ban at a press conference said the decision was taken after due consultations with stakeholders.
Those effected listed were Apapa LG and Apapa Iganmu LCDA; Lagos Mainland LG and Yaba LCDA; Surulere LG, Itire-Ikate and Coker-Aguda LCDAs; Ikeja LG, Onigbongbo and Ojodu LCDAs; Eti-Osa LG, Ikoyi-Obalende and Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs; Lagos Island LG and Lagos Island East LCDA.
He said that was the first stage of the state government’s plan “to sanitize our roads and protect Lagosians from the negative effects of these illegal modes of transportation.”
