The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is to being its 2021 Fire Evacuation Drill today in order to raise awareness among public servants as well as mitigating the risks of fire, especially in buildings used as government offices.

Margaret Adeseye, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LSFRS, made this known on Tuesday while briefing the staff of the agency on the modalities for this year’s exercise.

According to her, the stimulated Fire Exit Drill is to ensure effective and efficient use of the fire devices installed in buildings in case of emergency.

“The drill will ensure orderly exit, active emergency control action while preventing panic that has been responsible for most of the loss of lives in major fire disasters,” she said.

“As an agency charged with the responsibility of fire prevention and fire fighting, we are poised to continue a sustained sensitisation of the general public to guide against unforeseen fire disaster,” she added.

Adeseye stressed the need for work place safety as the key to business continuity, disaster risk prevention and reduction.

She stressed that all government officers must ensure that the minimum safety standards were observed in all government facilities.

According to her, the theme of this year’s evacuation is “Sustaining Lagos Economy Through Fire Prevention,” while the slogan is: “To avoid the worst, put fire safety first!”

She said the exercise would be flagged off at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Round House Alausa, Ikeja.

Adeseye commended the Sanwo-Olu-led administration for upholding public order and safety which is enshrined in the security and governance pillar of the THEMES Agenda.
