Lagos CP visits Ajah, Ilaje, vows to restore lasting peace

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, on Friday visited the warring communities of Ajah and Ilaje in Lagos State for an on-the-spot assessment.

He visited the communities along with other senior police officers in the state.

During the visit which was to ensure that peace reigns, the police boss had an indepth discussion with leaders of the two warring factions.

He was, along with his team, taken round the areas mostly prone to crises and agreed on a buffer zone.

A detachment of policemen was drafted to Ajah and Ilaje communities to ensure peace and confidence building.

Speaking to the people of the area during the visit, the police boss called on them to eschew violence and avoid rumour mongering.

He urged the people to be vigilant and report suspicious movements and persons to the police.

He vowed to unleash the full weight of the law on any person or group of persons determined to breach the peace of the communities.

Leaders of the two warring communities applauded the steps taken by the Commissioner of Police in restoring lasting peace to the communities and promised to support the peace building initiatives.

They called on their followers to give peace a chance.

It would be recalled that there was a fatal communal clash between Ajah and Ilaje youths.

One person was said to be killed in the clash.

The clash was said to have resulted as a result of a crisis over who controls a trading site between the two communities.
