The governor of Kwara State, Mr Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has described the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, as a leading impetus in the fight against the deadly coronavirus, COVID-19, in the country.
The Governor said this on Thursday while receiving the hand sanitizer, antiseptic liquid soap and other materials produced by NYSC Kwara to support the state in the war against the pandemic.
The governor was represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, who doubles as the chairman of the technical committee on COVID-19.
Governor Abdulrazaq said it had shown in various efforts of the scheme since the COVID-19 broke out in the country that NYSC was not only serving the purpose of uniting, but a major catalyst in the fight against pandemic.
Governor Abdulrazaq therefore appreciated the tenacity of the scheme in the nation’s trying period and promised to make judicious use of the materials.
The state coordinator of NYSC Kwara State, Mrs Francisca Olaleye, who led the team of Corps members and officers of the scheme for the presentation of the items earlier explained that the gesture was a little token, as directed by the Director-General and management of the scheme to support the government in the fight against the pandemic.
She assured of the readiness of the scheme to always support the state government to curtail the spread of coronavirus in Kwara State.
Meanwhile, the leader of the team of corps members, who produced the hand sanitizers, Oropo Enitan KW/19B/3045, while speaking on the presentation, on behalf of his colleagues, promised to always identify with the state government in the fight against coronavirus.
Recall that about two weeks ago, a group of corps members willingly produced a thousand bottles of hand sanitizers and liquid soap at the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development unit of the NYSC state secretariat.
Having been partnering with the state government to sensitise the people of Kwara State at the grassroots, the corps members in their hundreds have been putting their skills and ingenuity into use in the fight against the pandemic.
