Kwara State government has called on security agencies to go after those behind the fake news being circulated against it.

The government made the call in reaction to a statement said to have been circulated that it would start paying the national minimum wage from October.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, the government said the fake report was the height of recklessness.

“We are again calling on the security agencies to get to the roots of this evil of fake news,” he said.

The statement reads:

Fake News Alert: We didn’t issue any statement on Minimum Wage

The attention of the Office of the Chief Press Secretary has been drawn to a fake news circulating on the social media to the effect that the Kwara State Government will begin the implementation of the new Minimum Wage in October.

The entire story is fake and should be disregarded. Our previous statements have made clear the position of the government on the minimum wage.

Those behind the latest statement, which they signed with the name of the CPS, are dangerous purveyors of fake news who would be dealt with once identified.

This development, the second in about three weeks, is the height of recklessness and we are again calling on the security agencies to get to the roots of this evil of fake news.
