Mr. Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been declared the winner of the Kogi West senatorial district of Kogi State.
He won the rerun for the district held on Saturday, beating his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opponent, Dino Melaye.
While Adeyemi polled 88,373 votes, Melaye polled 62,133 votes.
The outcome of the election was announced by the returning officer, Olayinde Lawal, on Saturday.
It would be recalled that Melaye was declared the winner of the election for the senatorial district held in February.
However, Adeyemi challenged the victory at the election petition tribunal and won.
The verdict of the tribunal was challenged by Melaye at the Appeal Court, but the verdict of the tribunal was upheld.
A rerun was ordered, but ended inconclusive, leading to the Saturday exercise which saw the emergence of Adeyemi as the senator representing Kogi West.
