INEC announced the decision in Abuja on Tuesday after a meeting where the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the elections in the two states were approved.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement issued by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye.

Okoye said notice for both elections would be issued on August 1, 2019.

The statement reads in part: “Campaigns by Political Parties in public shall commence on August 2 and end on October 31.

“The parties sponsoring candidates are required to submit the list of their agents not later than October 2.

“The stated timelines are in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).”
