Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing of some policemen by soldiers in Taraba State has begun.

This is as a probe panel headed by Rear Admiral I.T. Olaiya was set up.

The panel is made up of representative each from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Department of State Service and the Defence Intelligence Agency.

The Acting Director of Defence Information, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, who made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja, said the panel was set up on Friday in compliance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.

It would be recalled that the Nigeria Police Force announced the killing of some of its operatives by soldiers in Taraba State.

The policemen were said to have been in the state on a mission to arrest a kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume, when they were killed.

The soldiers, in defence of their action, however said the policemen were mistaken for kidnappers and were killed during exchange of fire.

The police have since faulted the defence of the Nigerian Army saying the soldiers lied.

President Buhari called for a proper probe of the case to forestall a reoccurrence.
