The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday engaged each other in accusation and counter-accusation over the conduct of the supplementary election in Kano State.
While PDP accused APC of importing thugs into the state to allegedly rig the supplementary election, APC took a swipe, saying that PDP’s allegation should be ignored.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, PDP called on INEC to cancel the supplementary election.
That, according to the acting chairman of PDP in the state, Rabiu Sulaiman-Bichi, had been completely taken over by armed political thugs, hence the need to cancel it.
He said the thugs who came in from among other places, Plateau, Katsina and Zamfara states voted with cards not belonging to them.
“Today this charade called re-run election was slated to hold in Kano and other states but unfortunately, what we have in Kano is nothing but a sham.
“Reports reaching us since yesterday indicated that thugs have allegedly been mobilised to take over all the 208 polling units,” he said.
But in its reaction, APC said the allegation of PDP should simply be ignored.
The chairman of APC in the state, Abdullahi Abbas, said PDP’s allegations were untrue.
“How can we bring or invite people from other states to come to Kano, while we have people here, considering the population of Kano…
“We are calling on INEC to ensure the successful completion of the exercise. It is unfortunate that the PDP chairman called for the cancellation of the election, while the election is still ongoing.
“This is a clear indication that they are afraid of losing the election, otherwise, why should he call for the cancellation of the election,” he said.
