The anti-corruption commission of Kano State has begun a probe into the claim by Kano Zoological Gardens that a gorilla in the state-owned zoo swallowed N6.8 million.
The action followed a directive to that effect by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Abba Anwar, the order was given on Friday.
“The order was given on Friday and the commission has already swung into action,” he said.
He said the commission was already looking into the immediate and remote circumstances surrounding the allegation, with the aim of determining the truth.
A gorilla was reported by the finance officer of the zoo to have swallowed the money.
The claime was also confirmed by the managing director of the zoo, Umar Kobo.
The incident was said to have occurred during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
