President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken on the Lagos school building collapse which occurred on Wednesday.

“It touches one to lose precious lives in any kind of mishap, particularly those so young and tender. May God grant everyone affected by this sad incident fortitude and succour.”

These are the words of President Buhari as he expressed his condolence over the disaster.

The building in Itafaji area of Lagos Island, Lagos, collapsed at about 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday when students were in class.

The school is occupying a floor of the building.

Rescue workers had since got to the scene and have been helping out.

In the message as issued by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, the president said he was extremely saddened by the collapse of the building which left fatalities, particularly of small children.

The president sympathised with the parents and relations of the deceased, wishing them God’s comfort.

He also wished the injured speedy and complete recovery.

He commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State, pledging the assistance of the Federal Government as might be required by the state.

He charged the Lagos State government to do all that was needful, so that such tragic developments did not recur in future.
