Invest in Nigeria in your service year, Akeredolu advises corps members

The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has charged the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 11) corps members deployed to the state to invest in the country during the service year.

The governor gave the charge during the Closing Ceremony/Terminal Parade held at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.

Akeredolu said that the country had invested a lot into their future hence the need for them to reciprocate the good gesture by developing and not destroying the society.

“My dear compatriots in the national service, having undergone the three weeks rigorous but exciting orientation course, it behoves on you to justify the huge investment on mental and emotional stability which is meant to adequately prepare you for the challenges of the service year and beyond,” Akeredolu said.

The governor said that reports reaching his office indicated that the corps members exhibited high degree of discipline during the course.

“Gentlemen corps members, I hope your comportment during the orientation course would be sustained in the course of your service year. The great nation places much premium on you to display excellent performance which will take the country out of present day challenges,” he said.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Dotun Owanikin, said that the state would provide conducive and enabling environment for the service corps to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

On welfare and security, the governor promised to make it sacrosanct and non-negotiable.

That, according to him, was to make the corps members, majority of who are visiting the state for the first time to feel secured in any part of the state they might found themselves.

“I wish to state categorically that the state would  continually ensure that the security and welfare of corps members deployed to the state receives priority attention. Ondo State is relatively peaceful and secured, I urge you to be security conscious,” he said.

He commended the management of NYSC and stakeholders “for your efforts towards ensuring that these corps members were properly groomed and monitored during the orientation course.”

As part of the programme, the state coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, presented the 2018 Batch ‘C’ State Honours Award winners to the governor for presentation of the cash award and certificate of commendation.

The recipients, Abem Raymond Godwin with code number OD/18C/1209; Adeleke Florence Ifeoluwa with code number OD/18C/0266 and Ukwem Chinonyerem Princess with code number OD/18C/1156, were rewarded with N100,000, N80,000) and N50,000  respectively for distinguished themselves during the 2018 Batch ‘C’ service year.

The 1,023 corps members commenced their three weeks orientation course programme on 28th November, 2019.
