There is urgent need for the federal and state government to strengthen the nation’s security agencies in order to improve the security situation in the country.
The General Overseer, Foundation Raisers Assembly, Osogbo, Osun State, Bishop Olatunji James Fagbemi, made this call just as he said inter-security agencies co-operation was also very necessary.
Fagbemi who spoke at a press conference in Lagos condemned “the state of kidnapping, banditry and violent attacks on innocent and law abiding citizens” across the country.
The rate of crime, he said, must be stopped to prevent total breakdown of law and order.
Fagbemi who decried criminal activities, said the Ikorodu, Lagos branch of his church was attacked during a vigil by kidnappers on October 11, 2019.
He said the Osogbo branch of the church experienced similar attack by kidnappers on March 31 2019 as he demanded the whereabouts of one Mr. Hashim Babatunde a member of his church.
Bishop Fagbemi said that the recent attack on the Lagos State branch of his church might not be unconnected with the previous attack which he said must have been carried out by the same set of criminals.
He explained that the attack on his church might be a product of the pressure on him to produce Babatunde whom he described as a devout Christian and member of his church.
Babatunde, according to him, had refused to perform traditional chieftaincy ritual after losing his parents to kingship tussle.
He appealed to government to strengthen security operatives, particularly, the police to be able to intensify efforts to prevent further threat to his life, his members and the entire Christian congregation by some traditionalists.
He called on the police to investigate the disappearance of Babatunde and his wife, with a view to apprehending the culprits.
