The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday released the final list of candidates to participate in the governorship and state assembly elections across the country.

The election is scheduled to hold on March 2.

1,066 candidates will contest in the governorship elections in 29 states of the federation while 14,583 candidates will contest the state assembly elections.

The governorship and state assembly election will hold at the same time.

On the list, however, INEC did not include any candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Rivers State and Zamfara State.

It would be recalled that the APC primaries in the two states have been controversial.

The Court of Appeal sitting Port Harcourt had declared that the candidates that emerged from the congresses of the two factions of the party could not feature in the election.

The reason, it was declared, bordered on the conduct of the primaries in violation of a subsisting court order.

The APC has two factions in the state.

While one belongs to Senator Magnus Abe, the other is for the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

Different candidates emerged for the different factions

In Zamfara, APC was declared not to have carried out valid primaries and as a result could not present any candidate.

The ruling was given by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
