INEC presents Tinubu with certificate of return as president-elect

The president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been presented with the letter of return by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

Also, the vice-president-elect, Kashim Shettima, was presented with a certificate of return.

The presentation of the documents was carried out at the International Conference Centre, ICC, venue of the collation and announcement of the results of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Dressed in a white “agbada” with a red cap to match, Tinubu was accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to receive the document from the INEC boss.

Shettima was also accompanied by his wife to receive his own certificate of return.

The International Conference Centre was filled with dignitaries including governors, former governors, party chieftains and well-wishers.

Among dignitaries at the occasion were the vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; Adams Oshiomhole and Chief Bisi Akande.

Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was declared winner of the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday by Yakubu.

Tinubu recorded a total of 8,794,726 votes to emerge winner of the election.

His closest rival is Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who recorded 6,984,520 votes, while Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, came third with 6,101,533 votes.

Declaring Tinubu winner of the election, the INEC chairman said: “I, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2023 general election. The election was contested.

“That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having certified the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned.”

Other contestants for the nation’s highest post are Rabiu Kwankwas of the New Nigeria Peoples Party; Omoyele Sowore, Africa Action Congress; Dumebi Kachikwu of the African Democratic Congress; Adewole Adebayo, Social Democratic Party; Malik Ado-Ibrahim, Young Progressive Party; Prof Christopher Imumulen, Accord Party; Kola Abiola, People’s Redemption Party; Prof Peter Umeadi, All Progressives Grand Alliance; and Hamza Al-Mustapha, Action Alliance.

Others are Sani Yusuf, Action Democratic Party; Nnnadi Osita, Action Peoples Party; Oluwafemi Adenuga, Boot Party; Yusuf Mamman Dan Talle, Allied Peoples Movement; Osakwe Felix Johnson, National Rescue Movement; and Nwanyanwu Daniel Daberechukwu, Zenith Labour Party.
