The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Akwa Ibom State, has been burnt.
It is however not clear what caused the fire barely a day to the Governorship and House of Assembly election in the state.
It was gathered that the fire broke out in the early hours of Friday burning some parts of the building.
Efforts by security guards to save the building from fire proved abortive.
Although some documents were said to have been saved, some were said to have been consumed by fire.
Mike Igini who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, was reported to have visited the office located at Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
There is tension in the state ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday as the contest is expected to be a serious battle between Governor Emmanuel Udom who is seeking a second term and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Nsima Ekere.
