The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2019, as a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s independence anniversary.
It will be the country’s 59th.
The announcement of the holiday was made by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Georgina Ehuriah.
The minister who congratulated Nigerians over the independence anniversary stressed the importance of peace and stability to nation’s growth.
This is as he pointed out that the government remained committed to ensure peace and security.
He called on Nigerians to show love to their fatherland, saying that the country was well endowed for adequate socio-economic development.
“As Nigerians, we should always remember that there is hope for our country and that we are blessed with both human and natural resources, tourism, cultural diversity, selfless spirit of unity and love for one another, as well as bonded brotherhood, all of which are potential we must exploit in the years ahead to make Nigeria the nation of our dreams,” he said.
