President Muhammadu Buhari has described the victory of Hope Uzodinma at the Supreme Court over the Imo State 2019 governorship election as the victory of the people of the state.
Buhari made the remark in reaction to the judgement which sacked Emeka Ihedioha and declared Uzodinma as the duly elected governor of the state.
Uzodinma is of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while Ihedioha is of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The president advised the new governor to run an inclusive government and unite the people of the state.
His words: “The road to justice may be long and tortuous, but it is the best path for anyone aggrieved.
“Under the new administration, a new journey to build a new Imo with new energy is about to begin. In this outcome, it is the people of Imo State who have emerged victorious.”
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, also congratulated Hope Uzodinma.
He said the unanimous decision of the seven-member panel of the highest court in the land has cleared any doubt on the victory of the APC in the election.
“This is a victory for democracy, the rule of law, the All Progressives Congress and the good people of Imo State.
“The new Governor-elect should be magnanimous in victory and see his mandate as a call to serve his people conscientiously and to the best of his ability,” Lawan said.
The Senate President wished the governor-elect a successful tenure in office and praised the Nigerian Judiciary for reasserting itself as a sacred chapel for judicious resolution of disputes.
In the same vein, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, described Uzodinma’s victory as an affirmation that the judiciary remained the last hope of the common man.
According to him, light would always prevail over darkness, no matter how long it might take.
“I join millions of Nigerians in congratulating you on your well-deserved electoral victory at the Supreme Court.
“Your victory and that of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) is a clear indication that no matter how long it takes, light will always prevail over darkness.
“By reclaiming Imo State, I am optimistic that our party, the APC, will clinch more states not only in the South East geopolitical zone but also in the South-South in the 2023 governorship elections,” he said.
