President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an immediate investigation into the fire outbreak at the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp at Ngala area of Borno State.
14 persons died in the fire while several other persons were injured.
Valuable goods were also destroyed.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the president said the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development should investigate and report the circumstances leading to the incident.
He also demanded that the ministry should advise on how a future occurrence would be averted.
The president further directed that urgently needed assistance be immediately given to the victims, and prayed to Allah to repose the souls of those whose lives were lost, and the quick recovery of the injured persons.
He described the IDP fire incident as “extremely horrifying.”
