The Chairman of Akoko South-East Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Olorunyomi, has asserted that generating creative ideas will always create opportunities for talented individuals.

The council chairman made this assertion in his good will message at the Inter-Platoon Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) competition and exhibition.

Olorunyomi said that for corps members to be seen as future leaders, there was need for them to change their mentality about wealth creation and begin to pursue the dreams that would make them employers of labour.

The council boss declared that while creative ideas ruled the world, the skills or vocations of individuals paid the bill and placed the ingenuity of raw talents divinely deposited in the focus mind in the front burner always.

Olorunyomi, a seasoned journalist who went into politics said that government at all levels were saddled with enormous responsibilities.

“Gentlemen corps members, it is an incontrovertible fact that all of us are directly or indirectly responsible for the state of our nation. We have abundance of both human and mineral resources and yet we are not getting it right.

“We have in excess what many countries all over the world are lacking yet we are all waiting for government to provide all our needs. This is a tall dream unless the youths, who are productive strata of the society wake up from their slumber to embrace skills and vocations that can redefine our collective existence.”

He said that various academic certificates possessed were not enough but the tenacity, drive and passion the corps members had would  single them out for economic freedom in challenging times like the one in the country.

Another guest who, the Chairman of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, Mr. Ayodele Akande admonished the corps members to take skills acquisition very seriously.

Akande, a chartered accountant said that his local government as well as others  in Akoko Division would continue to support the brilliant ideas of the corps members.

He reiterated the commitment of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Akoko chapter to make their presence felt more than ever before at the permanent orientation camp.

In her closing remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, charged the potential entrepreneurs to maintain undivided focus that would see their dreams come into reality.

The State Coordinator appealed to those who took SAED training with lack of seriousness to have a rethink and bring out the untapped talents during the service year.

“My special, wonderful, creative and excellent corps members, you can still start something today if you are yet to do so because the larger society, the outside world is waiting to celebrate you and do not forget to dream big,” she said.

The Assistant Director/Head, SAED, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma, encouraged the future ‘movers and shakers of our economy’ to hold tenaciously to the post camp training, which according to her will change their story for the better.

‘Mama SAED’ as Mrs. Ehimwenma is fondly called appreciated everyone for identifying with the laudable programme especially the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Ondo State on Political Matters, Mr. Azeez Awe, and all the chairmen present.

The competition and exhibition with which the curtain was drawn on the ten days intensive in-camp training for the corps members who selected from the 12 skill sub-set saw winners carting away prizes at the end of the colourful event.
