A 29 years old teacher, Odugbesan Ayodele Samson, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly kidnapping his 8 years old former pupil, Rasaq Akeeb.
The kidnap took place on November 4, 2020.
The spokesman of the police in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ajuwon divisional headquarters by the mother of the victim, one Fatimat Akeeb.
The woman was said to have reported that her son went to school at Arifanla area of Akute but was yet to return at about 6 p.m. only for her to receive a phone call from an unknown person who asked her to be ready to pay the sum of 200,000 if she wanted to see her son alive.
She stated further that the caller told her that the boy was brought to him by somebody and that he would not release him until the said amount was paid.
Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye, directed his detectives to embark on technical and intelligence based investigation which led to the discovery of the suspect’s hideout.
In order not to harm the victim, the suspect was lured out with part payment of his demanded ransom and he was subsequently apprehended.
He took the police detectives to where he kept the victim and the victim was rescued unhurt.
On interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime but blamed it on devil.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, was said to have ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-kidnapping Unit of the state’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The CP also appealed to parents to always be mindful of their children’s movements to and from school so as not to make them easy prey.
