Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, has explained that the discovery of a “torture centre” in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital followed a tip off.
Olukolu made this known on Monday when he spoke with journalists.
Over 200 persons were rescued from the rehabilitation centre described as illegal.
The centre is at Olore Central Mosque in the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The persons – young men and women – have been rescued and five persons arrested in connection with the running of the centre.
The commissioner of police who said the inmates were made to go through inhuman treatments, disclosed that the centre would be secured and further probe would be carried out.
According to him, those behind the centre would be prosecuted and made to face the wrath of the law if found guilty.
The victims rescued from the “torture centre”, according to the Commissioner for Women Affairs, in the state, Faosat Sanni, would be relocated and taken care of.
Some of the victims who narrated their ordeals said they had been in the centre for about four years.
According to some of them, some of the women were sexually abused at the centre.
It would be recalled that such centres have been discovered in some other states including Kwara and Kaduna.
