Nigerians should ensure that their gas cookers, cylinders and related accessories are in good conditions to prevent fire outbreaks and gas explosions.

The advice was given on Saturday by the Safety Manager of Delma Gas Limited, Mr. Augua Ogadinma, during a sensitisation exercise at Ajumoni Community Estate, Ijoko Lemode, Ifo local government area, Ogun State.

Titled “How to use gas safely and avoid fire/explosion”, the programme was organised by Ajumoni Community Estate Development Association in conjunction with Delma Gas Limited.

Ogadinma explained that most fire outbreaks and gas explosions result from inadequate attention to the state of the kitchen equipment.

According to him, it could only be lack of adequate attention that could make people not know whether or not there was gas leakage.

He said once there was leakage of gas through some of the equipment, their owners and others around them would be at risk.

Ogadinma said the proper thing to do once there was a notice of leakage or any problem was to fix the equipment in order to save lives.

He said much as gas usage had made life easy, if not carefully used could lead to death and destruction of property.

Ogadinma who took those who attended the programme  through how to use the kitchen equipment and prevent fire outbreak said the devastating effect of carelessness in their use could not be over-emphasised.

He warned that gas cylinders should not be kept in the kitchen but outside.

Among other safety measures, Ogadinma said cylinders should be kept away from sun and rain when kept outside.
