How Ekweremadu escaped assassination attempt

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday escaped assassination attempt at his Apo Quarters residence in Abuja

Some armed men were said to have successfully avoided the security men detailed to guard him, and entered the premises.

They were reported to have quietly held his son and forced him to lead them into the senator’s room.

“It was in the ensuing struggle in the Senator’s bedroom that security was alerted, leading to the arrest of one of the assailants with dangerous weapon and housebreaking devices, while the rest managed to escape,” Ekweremadu’s Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu Anichukwu, was said to have stated in a statement he issued.

The member of the gang who was attacked was said to have however refused to make any statement.

Meanwhile, the Senate has begun a probe into the case.

Its Committee on Police Affairs has been directed to take up the case.

The decision followed the narration of the incident at plenary by Ekweremadu.

He confirmed that one of the attackers was arrested.
