Lagos State officials have begun the movement of 2,269 pilgrims from the city of Makkah to Muna on Friday.

The action was confirmed by the Amir Hajj, Dr Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef, during the movement exercise at the Lagos House in Makkah.

According to a statement by Mr. Jamiu Dosunmu of the Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdul Lateef, who had joined other ad-hoc committee members to organise intensive lectures and prayer sessions urged the pilgrims to make use of the education and series of advice given to them in the course of the journey.

According to him, hajj is five days, which started today with the pilgrim’s movement to Muna, where they are to spend a day before going to Arafah.

“After fulfilling the rites of Arafah, which include supplications, reading of the Holy Quran and observing Subh, Zuhr and Asr Salats, they are to move to Musdalifah where Salat  Maghrib and Ishai will be performed alongside the picking of pebbles,” he said.

He further explained that on fulfilment of the rites, pilgrims would be led back to Lagos tent to wait for their turn for the throwing of pebbles at Jamarat in accordance to the time table approved by the Saudi Arabian authority.

“The throwing of pebbles will continue for three days when the pilgrims are expected to have completed the major rites of Hajj and will be going back to Makkah,” he stated.

Dr Abdul Lateef assured pilgrims of the commitment of the Lagos officials to give their best to the operation in order to have a hitch-free exercise while seeking their cooperation in that regard.

He reminded the pilgrims on the need to be patient, tolerant and humble as the life that would be experienced in Muna was completely different from that of Makkah and Medina.

“Take more time to pray for yourself, family, Lagos State and Nigeria, particularly the success of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Administration”.

He finally clarified that though some pilgrims died in Makkah, Lagos has not lost any pilgrim.

He added that those who fell sick had recovered and were part of the journey.

The Amir enjoined families of the pilgrims to stay calm and fast on Arafah Day as all hand were on desk to guard against any unpalatable situation.
