The attempt to arrest popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise referred to as Sunday Igboho, is ill-informed, former Senator who represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has told the police and Department of State Services, DSS.

The focus rather, he said, should be the danger in Kagara and Jangebe where hundreds of students had been kidnapped.

His tweet: “In the face of a greater danger in Kagara and Jangebe, Sunday shouldn’t be the focus now.”

Recall that there was a rowdy session on Friday as security operatives were alleged to have attempted to arrest Igboho.

The incident occurred along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the afternoon.

In a video that went viral, Igboho is seen naked to the waist, in a rowdy session with policemen and some of his supporters.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, later confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle.

He explained that Igboho was on his way to see the leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, when he (Igboho) was harassed by the police.

Fani-Kayode condemned the action of the police warning that it was reckless and dangerous.

His tweets read: “I just spoke to my brother Sunday Igboho. He told me there was a violent attempt to arrest him this afternoon by a joint team of soldiers, DSS operatives & policemen numbering about 40 on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway whilst he was on his way to see Baba Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos.

“I condemn this attempt to ambush & abduct him. It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him all they need to do is to invite him to their office. I am not aware of any crime that he has committed & I urge restraint on all sides.

“Let me also send a warning to the FG that Sunday Igboho is a hero to millions of Yorubas & either killing him or detaining him unlawfully would be the biggest mistake they could make. Building bridges, dialogue & peace is better than violence & war. A word is enough for the wise.”
