A former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has decided against his earlier decision to quit partisan politics as he has agreed to lead his supporters to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The decision to lead his supporters to APC was made known on Sunday shortly after a meeting with his political supporters at his residence at the Aseludero Court in Sagamu, Ogun.

The former governor who was the Director-General of the campaign team of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the just concluded general election said his position was based on the demand of his supporters.

He said they were opposed to his decision to quit politics.

He said the associates who were led by his Special Assistant on Youth, Ifedayo Kayode, argued that rather than quit politics, he should lead them to APC having worked for the emergence of Dapo Abiodun as Governor-Elect of Ogun State.

Said Daniel: “Basically, they said I could resign from PDP.

“They said I must lead them to APC and also said I cannot retire from politics, that is the summary of what I heard.”

Asked what he had decided to do as a result of the demand, he said: “Now, I have to take a look at it. What else can I say? My people have spoken.”

Daniel announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated March 14 sent to the Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.

He stated that his decision was strictly personal, adding that he had “fewer points to make and prove in my Political journeys in partisan politics.”

He said with the new development, he would rejuvenate his “charity based organisation, the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) which will literally continue to dispense succour to our people in need, address and assist in the areas of some of their health challenges; I also plan on resuscitation of the non-partisan Political Leadership Academy (POLA) which I established some years ago as a platform of political education to our citizens.”
