No fewer than five suspected armed robbers and cult members were arrested by the operatives of the Lagos Police Command at Ilasan, Lekki area of Lagos State.
In the same vein, 34 members of the Awawa Boys, notorious for criminal activities were arrested in Agege area of Lagos State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos Police Command, Mr. Bala Elkana, made this known in a statement made available to FrontPage on Sunday.
He said the police were alerted at about 1330hrs about the presence of some armed robbers and cult members behind Angle 90 Bar at Lekki on Friday, and they moved into action.
Arrested in the operation were the leader of the gang named Ibrahim Abu ‘m’ 32yrs old and four others, namely: Samuel Usai ‘m’; John Nwaru ‘m’; Emmanuel Moro ‘m’ and Michael Daniel ‘m’.
Elkana said upon searching the suspects, one locally made pistol with ten unexpended cartridges were recovered.
Investigation, he said, was ongoing.
The suspects, he stated, would be charged to court.
Similarly, the police, acting on credible intelligence raided some criminal hideouts within Akerele area, Agege, on Wednesday.
The raid led to the arrest of 34 suspected members of Awawa Boys.
According to the police, they had been terrorising the areas for some time.
Seven bags of weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them.
They have been handed over to Taskforce, Oshodi, for prosecution, the police spokesman said.
