Five suspects, including a woman, have been arrested by the police for beating one Olamide Omolegbe, 22, to death over alleged theft of phone.
Omolegbe said to be resident at G.R.A., Abidjan, was accused of stealing a phone by one Bolanle Muhammed in her soft drink shop at Bodore, Ajah, Lagos.
The alarm was however found to be false, but that was after Omologbe had been beaten to death allegedly by Wasiu Wahab ‘m’; Ramon Ibrahim ‘m’; Junior Adebayo ‘m’ and Yusuf Adegbite ‘m’.
According to the Public Relations Officer of Lagos Police Command, Mr. Bala Elkana, the complaint was made at Langbasa Police Station on July 8, 2019.
Omolegbe’s body was recovered by a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ada Okafor, on July 10, 2019 at Badore Jetty and deposited at Mainland hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Five suspects including the woman who raised the false alarm were arrested.
Wasiu Wahab who is the principal murder suspect and Yusuf Adegbite were arrested inside the lagoon where they hid themselves in order to evade arrest.
Investigation, the police said, revealed that the phone was actually stolen by the son of the woman who wrongly accused the deceased person.
The suspects confessed to the commission of the crime.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, to take over the investigation and ensure a diligent prosecution of the suspects.
