The Federal Government has impounded an aircraft belonging to Flair Aviation for violating Nigeria’s ban on flights into the country.

The aircraft said to belong to a United Kingdom company was said to have been found running commercial flight as opposed to the approval given it for humanitarian operations.

As part of measures put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the government, on March 23, halted commercial flights into the country.

But in a tweet on his handle, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the aircraft was caught violating the order.

He said apart from impounding the aircraft, the crew members were already being interrogated.

He declared that maximum penalty would be given.

The tweet reads: “COVID-19. Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights. This is callous! The craft is impounded, crew being interrogated. There shall be maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!”
