The Federal Government has expressed its resolve to protect all Nigerians wherever they may be, the Chairman/CEO Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has reiterated.
The promise to protect all Nigerians is contained in a statement by the Head of Media and Public Relations Unit, NIDCOM, in Abuja, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
Recalling that after advising Nigerians protesting on the streets of Guangzhou, China, to report to the mission in Ghuanzhou, rather than roaming the streets, which they eventually did, they were promptly attended to by officials of the Nigerian mission, with the Head of Chancery, Mr Lawan, expressing his displeasure to the Chinese authorities.
Series of meetings were said to have been held between Nigerian officials and Chinese officials to resolve the impasse, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, was said to have also met with the Chinese Ambassador in Nigeria on the issue.
“While we expect Nigerians to obey laws of other countries, especially in these trying times, we also ask the Chinese authorities not to make their laws discriminatory , as consultations continue between both
countries to find an amicable solution to the issues at hand,” the statement reads in part.
