The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Muntar Abimbola, has urged the people of the state to approach the newly inaugurated Family Court in the state over matters concerning children and families whenever the need arises.
He made the call on Monday while inaugurating the judges and officers of the court in Ibadan, the state capital.
According to him, with the take off of the Family Court and the inauguration of its members, the people of the state could approach the court on issues affecting children and family in general, stressing that the Family Court “is not restricted to only lawyers,” as NGOs, Civil Society Organisations, parents and concerned persons can approach the court on issues that border on the family.
Justice Abimbola emphasised that children were entitled to their fundamental human rights and that such must be protected everyway by all and sundry.
While charging that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the provision of the court was justified, the chief judge noted that laws could only be made efficient when the law made by the legislative arm was interpreted by the spirit of functionality.
On the functionality of the Family Court and how all the High Courts in the state would also handle family issues, Justice Abimbola urged all the officers of the court to work hard to ensure justice at all times, noting that a monitoring team would be set up to check the level of enforcement and ensure that compliance of the child’s Right Law would be provided for by the court.
Justice Adenike Adeeyo, while speaking on behalf of the judges and officers inaugurated, assured that the court would deliver on its mandate and ensure there was accelerated hearing on any case brought before it, urging everyone to endeavour to approach the court when the need might arise.
