The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has congratulated Professor Tunde Akanni on his recent investiture as Fellow of the Society of Peace Studies and Practice, SPSP.
The congratulatory message is contained in a letter by the Head of Department, Administration, Yisau A. Adepoju, for the Executive Vice Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olatunji Bello, and dated October 7, 2026.
The statement reads in part: “The auspicious milestone is a clear testimony to your laudable scholarly contributions to the field of journalism. As a thoroughbred professional and accomplished academic, you have consistently demonstrated passion and unwavering commitment to the promotion of Conflict-Sensitive Journalism. You have tenaciously identified with this strand of Development Communication that is renowned for fostering sustainable social change and advancing the overall quality of life, particularly in developing nations.”
The commission said given Akanni’s track record, the honour which it described as timely and richly deserved did not come as a surprise.
It added: “The FCCPC is pleased to share the joy of the accomplishment with you and your esteemed family. We are confident that you will continue to make our nation and the global academic community proud in all your future endeavours.
“Please, accept the assurances of our highest egrards and best success.”
Akanni, the only Communication Professor honoured this year, is a distinguished Nigerian scholar, journalist, development communication specialist, and public affairs strategist whose career spans academia, professional journalism, public policy, media development, and civil society engagement.
Renowned for his scholarship in journalism, media studies, conflict communication, and development communication, he has established himself as one of Nigeria’s most visible and influential communication scholars.
A Professor of Journalism, Akanni teaches in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Lagos State University, LASU, where he has contributed significantly to teaching, research, curriculum development, and postgraduate supervision.
His academic interests encompass journalism practice, media ethics, development communication, political communication, media and conflict, strategic communication, and the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on media systems.
His scholarly publications and newspaper commentaries have earned him recognition as one of the country’s most prolific public intellectuals.
Before joining academia, Professor Akanni built an accomplished career in journalism, working across Nigeria’s vibrant print media industry.

Professor Akanni’s professional engagements extend beyond the university.
He is currently serving on sabbatical with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, where he contributes his expertise to strategic communication, public engagement, and institutional communication.
