Fake lawyer bags three years imprisonment with hard labour

A fake lawyer, Adedeji Ebenezer Oluwagbenga, has been sentenced to three years in imprisonment.

The sentence was passed on Wednesday, Ogun State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Thursday.

Oluwagbenga was arrested at Itori Chief Magistrate Court on August 5, 2020 where he was appearing for a client.

The convict was arraigned before Chief Magistrate B.A. Somorin on one count charge of unlawful and illegal appearance as a lawyer knowing full well that he is not.

He first pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty when he was confronted with evidence.

The chief magistrate there and then sentenced him to three years in prison with hard labour without option of fine.

The convict was arrested during a court session at Itori Chief Magistrate court when his conduct did not in any way was in tandem with the practice of somebody who had been called to the bar.

The conduct was also noticed by the magistrate himself.

He was subsequently detained at Ewekoro police station from where he was transferred to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for diligent prosecution.
