President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that he expected the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to challenge his victory at the presidential election in court.

Buhari made this declaration on Saturday shortly after he voted in the Governorship and House of Assembly election at the Kofar Baru 003 polling unit, Daura, Katsina State.

“I expect that to happen,” Buhari said in response to the question over the challenge of his victory in court.

The president also spoke about the violence that greeted the general election.

According to him, he expected that the security agencies of the country would counter them.

He said they had been strategising over that and would be able to contain it.

His words: “I will leave it to the law enforcement agencies especially the police because they have been meeting virtually on a 48-hour basis to make sure that they have identified the flashpoints, as you mentioned, wherever they are and make arrangements to counter it.”

Buhari defeated his PDP counterpart, Atiku, in the presidential election held on February 23.

PDP and Atiku have since rejected the results, saying the election was fraught with irregularities.
