The senator representing Akwa Ibom North West District, Godswill Akpabio, has lost his bid to return to the Senate.
He lost to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Mr. Chris Ekpenyong, in the National Assembly election held on Saturday.
Akpabio contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Declaring the winner on Tuesday, the Returning Officer in the state, Prof. Peter Ogban, said Ekpenyong recorded 118,215 votes to beat Akpabio who recorded 83,158 votes.
It would be recalled that Akpabio defected to the APC in August 2018.
The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State was the Senate Minority Leader before his defection.
He was welcome into the APC at a mega rally held at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium.
