The Ondo State co-ordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, has admonished corps members serving in the state to be responsible and law-abiding.

She made this admonition in her message to the members of the service corps to commemorate the Easter celebrations.

Akpabio said she was of the opinion that the present circumstance which had made all countries of the world to tighten their belts against the coronavirus pandemic called for sober reflection.

She described the period as one in which people must seek divine intervention to overcome the global plague.

“It has become expedient for me to address you as Christian faithfuls celebrate the remembrance of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and to call on you to rededicate yourselves for the challenges that lie ahead of us as a nation.

“Our country Nigeria no doubt, is going through one of the most turbulent periods in her history and you as a member of the strata of the society which the country has invested hugely on needs to show understanding and display reasonable attitude as you remain the special children to the government.

“While the government of the day has provided a policy direction in the face of COVID -19 pandemic, I want to urge you to abide by the said directive and at the same time observe precautionary measures as enunciated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

She said for emphasis, corps members should stay safe at home as a result of total or partial lockdown as the case might be and promote personal hygiene which include but not limited to frequent washing of hands with soap under running water, applying hand sanitisers regularly and maintaining social distancing.

The NYSC boss charged them not to engage in any form of criminal tendencies while the stay at home order was on.

She further advised the corps members to desist from going out for early morning exercises so as not to make themselves vulnerable to attacks by hoodlums.

“I want you to reflect on the season and seek the face of our Creator to discover yourself and work on your inner mind to prepare yourself for greatness.

“Remember that your parents and loved ones place high premium on you to bring smiles to their faces and they are looking forward to reap the reward of their investments on you,” she said.

She appealed to them to verify genuine and authentic information from the state secretariat or from the NYSC official channel of information dissemination and never to join the bandwagon as purveyors or carriers of fake and unsubstantiated news.

While urging the members of the service corps to do everything in moderation during this Easter season, she prayed for quick recovery for all the infected persons and strength to bear the irreparable loss for the families of those who lost their precious ones to the coronavirus pandemic.
