The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has been commended for its role in preparing Nigerian graduates for the challenges they are likely to face in the future.
The commendation was given by the State Director of Security, Department of State Services, DSS, Ondo, Mr. Emmanuel Esomonu.
He spoke when he hosted the NYSC director in Ondo State, Mrs. Grace Akpabio.
The security chief who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Nwakelu, said corps members, who are fresh graduates, right from the orientation camp and throughout the service year were constantly reminded that life outside the four walls of tertiary institutions was demanding and challenging.
He said that the laudable scheme because of its dynamism and flexibility in its operations was attracting more participants especially Nigerians in the diaspora.
The DSS boss reiterated the commitment of his command to remain resolute to the mandate of providing adequate security to corps members serving all over the nation.
“Let me inform you that the Department of State Services like other security institutions know that their mandate is to adequately protect all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic groups, tribes, religion or cultural affiliation.”
He promised that his command would intensify surveillance of corps lodges throughout the state and charged the corps members to report all clandestine movement around them.
“It is imperative to inform the corps members to be vigilant and move in groups. This will make it practically impossible for people with evil intentions to take undue advantage of them within their respective communities or neighbourhood,” he said.
Earlier, the Akpabio thanked the management of DSS for always providing quality undercover personnel for successive orientation courses.
The state coordinator of the NYSC commended the security organ for its good work, sacrifice and commitment.
Mrs. Akpabio said that her visit was to strengthen the existing cordial symbiotic relationship between the two agencies of the government.
She enjoined the command to continue to provide excellent services to the scheme in the state such that there would not be any room for apprehension in case of any breach of public peace.
