The Socialist Party of Nigeria, SPN, has called for the immediate disengagement of Alpha-Beta Consulting from revenue collection for Lagos State government.
The party also called for the investigation of the current and previous board of directors for infractions and financial misconducts.
The calls, the party said, became necessary in view of the alleged financial malpractices against the company said to be owned by former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Said SPN in a statement issued on Sunday: “We call for immediate disengagement of the Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP from the Lagos State revenue collection. We also call for the board of directors both current and previous should be investigated and duly prosecuted for infractions and financial misconducts. Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP must be mandated to refund all loots accrued to it over the years from the Lagos State revenue generation. We demand a democratic public probe of the Alpha Beta contract by an elected committee of workers, pro-labour organisations and relevant professionals.
“The Lagos State Chapter of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) is opposed to contract system and we call for the abrogation of the public-private partnership because it is usually an avenue for top government officials in collaboration with private allies to loot public funds and exploit the working masses. SPN calls for a public sector-led economy through the control of the commanding heights of the economy under the democratic management of workers and consumers/communities.”
In the statement, the party said the company was accused of siphoning N150 billion between 2010 and till date while the firm had been collecting commission since 2002.
The party said such money, if judiciously used, by the state government would have created abundant jobs for the people of the state.
It added that unfortunately, the money was used to enrich just a few people.
“SPN holds that there is no need for any private company to run government finances as there are government parastatals and ministries that are saddled with this responsibility. What is the function of the Ministry of Finance and Lagos State Commissioner for Finance?” the party queried.
