The second leg of The Daily Times Nigeria’s, DTN, centenary celebration holds today, November 3, 2026, in Lagos, with a Town Hall and National Conversation expected to bring together prominent media personalities and other dignitaries.
The occasion is design to deliberate on Nigeria’s achievements, celebrate national change-makers and explore ways of reshaping the country’s global image.
The event, scheduled to take place at Harbour Point, 4, Wilmot Point Road, Victoria Island, Lagos, is the second in a series of activities marking the newspaper’s 100 years of service to Nigeria.
Former Ogun State governor and former Managing Director of The Daily Times, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, will chair the occasion, while Olorogun Sam Amuka-Pemu, publisher of Vanguard Newspapers and former editor of The Sunday Times, and Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, former Managing Director of The Daily Times and Chairman of Tanus Communications, will serve as co-chairmen.
The Town Hall and National Conversation is designed to deepen discussions on Nigeria’s national attainments, honour individuals who have contributed to the country’s development and promote a positive narrative of Nigeria to the international community.
A major highlight of the programme will be the Honouring the Past Exhibition, which will showcase the contributions of notable Nigerians who helped shape the country’s history, alongside recognition of individuals contributing to the nation’s future through leadership, patriotism and service to humanity.
The celebration will also feature the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, an initiative aimed at recognising 100 impactful Nigerians, past and present, as part of the newspaper’s centenary activities running from June 1, 2026, to June 1, 2027.
According to the organisers, the exhibition will draw on The Daily Times’ historical archives, documenting events, personalities and developments recorded throughout the newspaper’s century of service.
Another major initiative associated with the centenary celebration is The Nigerian Grand Book (Magnum Opus), a 700-page national souvenir being developed by Folio Group, owners of The Daily Times.
The project is intended to use the newspaper’s extensive archives to tell Nigeria’s story to the world and serve as a tool for improving the country’s international perception.
The second leg of the celebration follows the inaugural DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards, which took place in Abuja on September 3, 2026, under the theme, “Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future.”
In a statement announcing the Lagos event, Chairman of Folio Africa and Publisher of The Daily Times, Mr. Fidelis Anosike, said the centenary initiative was driven by the desire to communicate Nigeria’s story positively while recognising Nigerians whose contributions had shaped the country.
The centenary programme is expected to provide a platform for reflection on Nigeria’s historical journey, acknowledge individuals who have contributed to national development and examine the role of the media in shaping the country’s future.
The event forms part of a year-long celebration of The Daily Times‘ 100th anniversary, with activities centred on preserving the past, recognising present-day contributions and inspiring future national development.
