A whopping sum of $8,065,615 has been seized at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.
The money which was kept in a car was intercepted when it was about to be loaded into an aircraft.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Hammed Ali, made this known on Tuesday during a press conference.
He said although the owner of the money had not been known, the driver (he did not give his name) of the vehicle used to transport the money had been arrested.
According to him, the driver worked with the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company, NAHCO, at the airport.
He said since the money had been seized, no bank had come to claim it.
His words: “From the day we seized this money, no bank has come to claim ownership. But our investigation will reveal the mystery behind the owners.”
