The chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area, Adeniyi Saliu, on Wednesday, warned against the stigmatization of Pobo food market in his area.
This is as plans are underway to fumigate the market.
The chairman gave the warning against the backdrop of the report of two cases of coronavirus in the area.
In a statement to residents, the local council development area boss said none of the two coronavirus cases visited the market hence it was safe.
He said the contacts of the case had been tested and they all returned negative.
The statement by the chairman reads in full:
Dear Eredo Residents,
Regarding the two COVID 19 positive cases recently confirmed. There is an urgent need to dispel the rumours being spread around.
- There is still no confirmed community transmission issue in Epe as a whole yet as samples taken around the positive cases and other places within returned negative.
- The attempt at sigmatising Pobo food market is not necessary as none of the two cases visited the market.
- The particular index case was fully aware of her exposure, she self-isolated and cooperated with the authorities.
- Only one person returned positive within her immediate environment, all others tested returned negative.
- People are advised to continue to observe all the rules, i.e – stay home, keep social distance, use your facemasks, wash your hands and apply sanitizers all the time.
- The test centre in Epe remains open, everyone is encouraged to go for a test, at least to rule out any fears of COVID 19 infection.
- If you suspect you have come in contact with any established positive case or you feel any of the COVID 19 related symptoms, you must go for a test immediately for your sake and for the sake of your loved ones.
- Stay Home, Stay Safe.
Adeniyi Saliu
Executive Chairman,
Eredo LCDA.
