COVID-19: Corps members donate face masks at Akure North

Residents of Oba Ile community in Akure North Local government area of Ondo State have expressed their appreciation to corps members under the aegis of Oba Ile Community Development Service, CDS, group for putting their health as priority.

The commendation came during the donation and presentation of face masks to the residents of the community.

Presenting the materials to the people of the area, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Ondo State, Mrs. Grace Akpabio, harped on the need to adhere strictly to the precautionary measures as adopted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and obey government directives on Coronavirus pandemic.

The state coordinator stated that poverty and ignorance had been the major stumbling blocks to the growth and development of Africa.

She therefore implored them to seek the right information.

Akpabio said that members of the service corps had been deployed to all nooks and crannies to give enlightenment talk on how to contain the spread of the COVID -19 as community transmission was responsible for the large number of those who tested positive in the country.

She advised them to maintain personal hygiene in and around their respective houses and avoid self medication.

“My people in Oba Ile as we all know that cleanliness is next to Godliness, let us maintain personal hygiene and keep our environment clean always as this is the antidote to fight against any disease.

“It is important to let you know that the Coronavirus pandemic that is raging across the world has no known cure because scientists are still working round the clock to develop vaccines that will fight the novel virus in the body” she said.

The NYSC boss who was represented by the Local Government Inspector for Akure North, Mrs. Bosede Daramola, encouraged the people in the community to take advantage of the selfless service of the corps members to better their lot.

She informed the elated residents who are looking forward to more of such advocacy and sensitisation that members of the service corps would continue to give their best to the community.

The President of the Oba Ile Community Development Service (CDS) group who initiated the idea, corps member Ojo Adedayo Emmanuel, said that the urgent need to contain the spread of the COVID -19 informed his decision.

On how the group sourced financial resources to actualise the idea, corps member Ojo with code number OD/19B/0014 said freewill donations from members and some personal friends of the NYSC scheme within the community made the project a reality.

The president of the CDS group who is a graduate of Statistics thanked the NYSC management both at the national and state levels for productively engaging the corps members in a constructive manner to contribute meaningfully to the society during the service year.
