Coronavirus outbreak: Osun govt inaugurates action committee

The State Government of Osun has inaugurated a technical committee on Coronavirus prevention and control in the state.

Inaugurating the 15-man committee, chaired by Dr. Gbenga Adepoju, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Mr Benedict Alabi, said the committee would coordinate the Response Team of the disease in case of emergency, be responsible for the effective management of confirmed cases, ensure effective surveillance system, and mobilize resources towards prevention and management of the disease.

At the inauguration on Friday in Oshogbo, the state capital, the deputy governor said that the committee would embark on sensitization and enlightenment programmes as part of its terms of reference.

He hinted that the state government of Osun was saddled with the responsibility of providing quality health services in the state towards enhancing the standard of living of citizens, as part of Human Health Agenda of the state government.

The Commissioner for Health, Osun State, Dr Isamotu, in his remark, said that the state government was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and international organisations to checkmate the scourge of the virus.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, State of Osun, Dr Olasiji Olamiju, said the success recorded in the fight against Lassa fever was a manifestation that the state would succeed in the control of Coronavirus.

Dr Olamiju maintained that the task before the committee was to put in place a mechanism for control and management of coronavirus in case of emergency and that the government would continue to be proactive in the prevention of any life-threatening disease in the state.

He also stressed that the emergency line “293” was available round the clock to respond to any case of Covid-19.

Other members of the technical committee include Dr. Mrs Anifowose, Dr Mrs Ogunbodede, Dr Olufemi Oroge (Secretary), S.P. Ehinare, Prof. Esmai, Pharmacist Mrs Awoyemi, Dr Olagunoye, and representatives from different agencies of government.
