A second case of cornonavirus has been recorded in Nigeria, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has announced.
The new case was said to be one of those who had contact with the first case of the disease in Nigeria, an Italian, who came in from Milan.
In a tweet by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the new case was said to be one of those kept in isolation over the first case.
The tweet by NCDC reads: “This second case is a contact of the index case, in Ogun State.
“The new case has been in isolation and was tested as part of our strategy to test all contacts of the index case.”
“Recent studies have shown that increased surveillance, isolation of contacts and in particular, contact tracing, reduces the risk of spread of COVID-19.
“All other contacts of the index case in Ogun and Lagos State will remain in isolation and testing will be done on those not yet tested,” the minister added.
It would be recalled that 39 persons were quarantined at the isolation facility at Lafarge, Ewekoro area of Ogun State, following the first case in the country.
The persons included the driver who picked the infected Italian from an hotel in Ikeja and those who served him food and drink.
