Rescue operation at the scene of the 21-storey building which collapsed on Monday in Lagos is near ground zero.

Upon getting to ground zero, the rescue operation will stop as there would be nothing to search any longer.

A reliable source in the rescue team who pleaded anonymity made this known to our correspondent Friday morning.

So far, 38 bodies have been recovered while nine were rescued alive.

It would be recalled that the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had given the indication that the rescue work would end on Thursday.

He gave the indication during his first visit to the scene on Wednesday.

His words: “I express my deepest sympathy to the families of those that have been involved in this unfortunate incident. For the bodies recovered from the site, we are currently conducting systematic process of identifying them. Before the end of today or tomorrow, the process would have been completed and family members can come forward to identify them.”

Recall that the state government has set up a medical base and information desk at the site of the building collapse, urging those whose family members were still missing to offer information on identity.

There is also a website (www.lagosmind.org/help) and helpline number (09090006463) for the distressed family.
