A non-political group, Christian Conscience, has made a clarion call to all political parties to make their campaign ahead of 2023 general elections issue-based.

It said when issues that can mould the opinion of voters are discussed, it becomes very easy to determine how to elect credible and God-fearing leaders.

The group further argued that “now that we are moving on the path of progress and positive signals towards credible elections from the electoral umpire, the nation looks forward to saying good bye to negative infractions on our electoral processes, come 2023.”

The position of the group is stated in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman, Dr (Mrs) Yetunde Akinluyi, and the National Secretary, Revd Kolawole Verralls after the August edition of the monthly meeting of its board on Monday.

The group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to continue to educate the masses, sensitize the electorate and other stakeholders on the general and carry out technological improvement on its operations which was demonstrated at the recent elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

It said though there were still some complaints, “We want them to improve on performance index so that the 2023 general elections will be the best to be conducted so far in the country.”

“As stakeholders in Project Nigeria, we are watching keenly with all arsenal in our possession while promising Nigerians that any infraction noticed before and during the campaign period shall be made available to them so as to make up their minds on who to vote for,” the group pledged.

It advised that everyone should have a positive mind towards 2023 elections, not to overheat the polity considering the fragile situation of the nation.

The group further appealed to the Buhari-led administration to keep to its promise by providing level playing field for all candidates, especially by calling on the security agencies and all concerned to be above board, before and during the forthcoming elections.

There should be an improvement on the human development index.

The group finally enjoined all Nigerians to shun any act of violence in the forthcoming campaigns and the general elections.
