President Muhammadu Buhari will dissolve his cabinet on May 22, a week before his inauguration for a second term.
The Minister of of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this known on Thursday after a Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in Abuja.
The disclosure was made to debunk the claim that the president had dissolved the cabinet.
The FEC meeting was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the president was away on a working visit to Maiduguri, Borno State.
He is expected to travel to UK on a private visit after the Borno trip.
Ahead of the winding down, Buhari had directed his ministers to submit comprehensive “status reports on policies, programmes and projects” of their different ministries, departments and agencies.
They were given up till Wednesday, April 24, 2019, to do that.
36 ministers were sworn in on 11 November 2015.
The ministers were directed to submit the report to the Presidential Audit Committee in the office of the Vice President.
A circular to that effect was issued by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
The circular also requested members of the Federal Executive Council to “ensure that all outstanding memoranda they intend to present to the Federal Executive Council are submitted to the Cabinet Affairs Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, not later than Tuesday, 30th April, 2019.”
The circular also informed members that the “9th and 10th meetings of the Council have been rescheduled to Thursday, 25th April and Thursday, 2nd May, 2019 respectively” in view of the Easter break and May Day celebrations.
